Gigi 2016

Gigi (Rachel Bricklebank), destined for a life as a courtesan in the Paris of the early 1900's

Madame Alvarez,(Mamita, Gigi's grandmother) (Janice'O'Donovan), with Honore Lachaille (Finbar O'Donovan), reminiscing their earlier romantic entanglement in the song 'Ah yes, I remember it well'

Mamita advising Gigi on the realities of life as a young courtesan, not entirely to Gigi's liking

Gaston, (Mark Cunningham), a rich bon vivant, in conversation with his uncle Honore, being bored of the high life and a series of mistresses

Gigi is sent by Mamita to her aunt Alicia to learn how to become a high-society courtesan, as has been the custom for a young woman in the family. Gigi is set up to become Gaston's mistress, as he has been attracted to her, but Gigi is unaware of his interest

Gigi is not at all keen on a future as a mistress to anyone and is seen here reflecting on her anticipated life, with the chorus in the song 'The Earth and Other Minor Things', enhanced by a street mime artist (Rachel Cooper-Bassett)

We now move to a view of cafe society in Paris, with the chorus in'Paris is Paris again'

More Parisian jolity, again viewed by the mime artist

Gaston reflects on his former life and mistresses, seen here with one of them (played by Julie Ballin), clearly bored with life

The party continues with 'The Night they invented Champagne'

The action moves away from Paris to the beach scene at Trouville, where Gigi sings 'I never want to go home again'

Gaston and Gigi get to know each other better

Mamita advises Gaston as to what is expected of him with regard to Gigi. Eventually, he asks for permission to marry her

A happy ending!
